Terms of service
Last updated 5 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Krikdex (Pty) Ltd for using Khula (khulabucks.co.za). You accept them when you set up your family. Please read them, and especially the box below.
The important bits
- Your 14-day free trial turns into a paid subscription on the plan you chose unless you cancel before it ends. We email you three days before.
- The subscription renews automatically (monthly, or yearly under the rules in “Annual plan”) until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Settings.
- Khula keeps records; it doesn't hold or pay money. You are responsible for checking amounts before you pay your children.
- You must be the parent or legal guardian of the children you add, or have their guardian's permission, and you are responsible for anyone who uses your family's sign-in.
- Our liability is limited as explained in “If something goes wrong”, except where the law doesn't allow it to be.

The service
Khula is a family chores and pocket-money ledger. It records chores, approvals, pocket money calculations, bonuses, demerits, school goals, payouts and savings. Khula does not hold, transfer or pay out money, and savings recorded in Khula are kept by you, not by us. Any payment to a child is made by you, outside Khula.
Your account
- You must be 18 or older, and the parent or legal guardian of each child you add (or have their parent or guardian's permission).
- You may share your family's sign-in with other adults who care for your children, such as a partner or Gogo. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so only share it with people you trust.
- Keep your password and parent PIN away from the children. PINs keep kids and parents apart on a shared device; your password is what keeps your account safe.
- Give us accurate details. Your email address is where we send codes, notices and receipts: if it changes, email us and we will update it.
Price, trial and billing
- Khula costs R59 a month or R590 a year per family, for up to 12 children. We bill in South African Rand through Paystack. There are no other fees.
- New families get a 14-day free trial. It starts when you add a card in Paystack's secure checkout. Paystack checks the card with a R1 charge, which we refund automatically. Nothing else is charged during the trial.
- Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the plan you chose is charged on the day it ends, and then on each renewal date. The billing page shows the date. We email you three days before the trial ends, and a receipt after every payment.
- If we change the price, we email you at least 30 days before the new price applies. It applies from your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.
- If a payment fails, you have three days to update your card. After that, access is paused until a payment goes through. Your data is kept as the privacy policy explains.
Annual plan
The annual plan is a fixed-term agreement of 12 months under section 14 of the Consumer Protection Act:
- You may cancel at any time. If you cancel within 14 days of an annual payment, we refund it in full. After that we refund the unused part, less a reasonable cancellation charge: we work out the months you have used at the monthly price and refund the rest (the refund policy shows how).
- Between 40 and 80 business days before your year ends, we email you to remind you, with any changes that would apply. Your plan renews for another year only if you choose that. Otherwise it carries on month to month at the monthly price until you cancel.
Cancelling
- Cancel at any time under Settings → Manage subscription → Cancel subscription. If you signed in a while ago, we first ask you to confirm it's you. Deleting your account cancels your subscription too.
- On the monthly plan, you keep access until the end of the month you have paid for, and that month is not refunded.
- On the annual plan, see “Annual plan” above.
- Khula starts as soon as you add your card at the end of setting up, at your request, so the seven-day cooling-off right in section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act doesn't apply (section 42(2)(d)). Instead you have the 14-day free trial: cancel during it and you pay nothing.
Your data
What you enter remains yours. We use it only as the privacy policy describes. If your subscription ends, we keep your family's data for six months so you can come back, and then delete it. You can delete your account and family at any time under Settings → Account.
Using Khula fairly
Don't use Khula for anything unlawful, try to reach another family's data, overload or probe our systems, or copy the service. If you do, we may suspend or close your account. Where it is reasonable to, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.
Our content
Khula's software, design, text, springbok avatars and illustrations belong to Krikdex (Pty) Ltd. You may use them only within Khula, for your family.
Changes to Khula
We keep improving Khula, so features change. If we make a change that substantially reduces what you are paying for, you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of any period you have paid for in advance.
If something goes wrong
Please read this section carefully, because it limits our liability.
- We work hard to keep Khula available and correct, but we can't promise it will always be available, or free of errors.
- Khula's calculations are a record to help you. Check amounts before you pay your children: we are not responsible for what you decide to pay.
- As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before it arose.
- None of this limits our liability for gross negligence, for anything we are not allowed to exclude, or your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or the Protection of Personal Information Act.
Ending the agreement
You can end it at any time by cancelling or by deleting your account. We may end it if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we stop offering Khula, in which case we will give you at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of any period you have paid for in advance.
Changes to these terms
We post any change here with a new date. For a material change we email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then (with a refund of the unused part of an annual plan); if you keep using Khula after that, the new terms apply.
Complaints
Email hello@khulabucks.co.za and we will reply within five business days and try to resolve the complaint within 20. If we can't, you may contact the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (cgso.org.za) or the National Consumer Commission (thencc.gov.za). Complaints about personal information can also go to the Information Regulator, as the privacy policy explains.
General
- South African law applies, and South African courts have jurisdiction.
- Emails and notices in the app count as written notice between us.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- We may transfer this agreement to whoever takes over Khula, if they keep these terms and the privacy policy. We will tell you first.
